Masterclass Uvamatris (Piemonte) - 18th and 19th of July in Amsterdam

Uvamatris is no ordinary Italian winery. Perched on top of a rolling hill in Sala Monferrato, in the northern part of the Monferrato in Piedmont, this small family estate covers around 6 hectares. The name comes from Latin and means 'mother grapes', a tribute to grandmother Anna, who founded the winery in 1970 and whose photo still graces every label.

Today, young winemaker Gabriele Ronchi is at the helm. He took charge of the winery quite suddenly, and that is exactly what sets him apart: having never worked for years under an older winemaker, he brought fresh ideas straight from his winemaking studies in Turin. He blends authentic Piedmontese grape varieties such as Barbera and Nebbiolo with grapes from the French school, works sustainably with low yields and no herbicides, and has won awards from the likes of Decanter, Gambero Rosso and Luca Maroni.

During this masterclass you will taste a selection of his finest bottles, from 'Sagitta' Barbera d'Asti Superiore and 'Nebula' Monferrato Rosso to the 'Gemina' Pet-Nat and 'Astra' Spumante Metodo Classico, while Gabriele takes you through the story behind every glass.
