The Rot Cuvée 2022 from Lichti & Astroh is a playful, elegant red wine from the entry-level white label segment, made from 58% St. Laurent and 42% Portugieser. The grapes are grown on a combination of sandstone and limestone and were spontaneously fermented in small used oak barrels. Bottled without filtration, the wine retains its pure character and soft structure.
The nose reveals floral notes, accompanied by hints of nuts, tobacco, and ethereal herbs. The aroma is reminiscent of pickled berries, with subtle notes of iodine, cinnamon, and a touch of pepper. On the palate, the wine is sleek, juicy, and warmly fruity, with nuances of leather, mint, chocolate, and a hint of meat juice. The tannins are mild, and the finish is smooth and approachable, with a pleasant length.
