Carménère is a grape with a remarkable story. Long confused with Merlot and nearly forgotten in Europe, it found new fame in Chile, yet in the Piave region of Veneto it has quietly taken root all along. At Cà Peruzzetto it grows on the “Adriano” plot in Campo di Pietra near Salgareda, on sedimentary, slightly calcareous soils with a clay-loam texture. The vineyard, planted in 2005 and trained using the Sylvoz system, yields limited quantities: just 900 bottles per year.
The winemaking is determined and patient. After a maceration of 22 days, the wine is aged in oak barriques for eight months, followed by one month of reassembly in stainless steel and twelve months of bottle ageing. That long journey gives the Carménère the time to develop its complexity without losing its character.
In the glass it is ruby red with violet reflections. The nose is complex and spicy with the herbal notes typical of the variety. On the palate it is round and lightly tannic, with a pleasant hint of spice in the finish. Versatile at the table: equally at home with pasta, meat dishes, or vegetarian fare. Serve at 18 degrees.
