Product description
Poe Rava Rotwein Trocken is a powerful and expressive red, born from the harmonious blend of Cabernet Cubin and Merlot grapes. Merlot brings roundness and juicy berry-like fruit, while Cabernet Cubin adds firm structure and a robust backbone of tannins. The result is a wine that combines strength with elegance – ideal for lovers of characterful red wines with depth.
The grapes are sourced from the Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker vineyard (not indicated on the label) and were carefully hand-harvested at a very late stage. After destemming, fermentation took place with open maceration in traditional vats. The wine then matured for 16 months on fine lees in 500-liter French oak tonneaux, deep in the estate’s historic vaulted cellar, gaining complexity, roundness, and a subtle touch of oak.
The name Poe Rava refers to a fascinating creation myth from Polynesian mythology. In this tale, Tane, the god of harmony and beauty, brings the black pearl Poe Rava into the depths of the ocean, where it casts a mystical violet light into the underworld. The fully ripe, dark purple to nearly black berries of Cabernet Cubin and Merlot strongly resemble this rare Tahitian pearl. On the nose, the wine opens with blackcurrant, blackberry, herbs, and graphite. The palate is full and powerful, yet precise and balanced. An impressive cuvée with 13% alcohol, perfectly suited to roasted meats, hearty stews, and mature cheeses.
