The Chardonnay Area 2023 comes from the Schweigener Sonnenberg vineyard, located just across the French border. The soil consists of limestone and limestone marl, a terroir that gives the Chardonnay intense tension, finesse and a natural minerality. The grapes were selected entirely by hand and given a 12-hour maceration before being gently pressed in a traditional basket press. This careful treatment provides the basis for a wine with concentration, depth and pure terroir expression.
After pressing, the young wine was transferred via drop pressure to large oak barrels and barriques, where it fermented spontaneously without any additives. Maturation in wood gives the wine structure, roundness and a subtle creamy character, while unaged bottling ensures maximum aromatic complexity and an authentic, unpolished profile. Thanks to this minimal intervention, the Chardonnay Area retains its natural power and refined balance between fruit, wood and freshness.
In the glass, it shows up full, ripe and elegant, with aromas of yellow apple, ripe nectarine, light vanilla notes and a chalky minerality. The palate is rich but precise, with a soft creamy texture, nice acidity and a long, clean finish. With 14% alcohol, 4.2 g/l of residual sweetness and 6.5 g/l of acidity, this is a powerful but harmonious Chardonnay that goes beautifully with dishes such as roast chicken, creamy pastas, grilled fish, risotto with mushrooms or soft white cheeses. Vegan, natural and carefully crafted: a wine that fully reflects its origins.
