La Folie 2022 is a lively and expressive Castillon wine, made from mainly merlot (92 per cent) complemented by cabernet sauvignon. The grapes come from young, 20-year-old vines from the vineyards of Château La Croix Lartigue and Château Claud Bellevue. These plots are managed entirely sustainably, with no chemical weed control and natural plantings such as grains and legumes to aerate and nourish the soil. The grapes were harvested by hand from 16 September 2022, at the optimal moment of freshness and aromatic tension.
Vinification is done with whole bunches and extraction via rack-and-return, which ensures gentle but full flavour extraction. Malolactic fermentation takes place in cuves, followed by 16 months of ageing in tanks to preserve the purity and vibrancy of the fruit. 18,000 bottles of this vintage have been produced. The result is an accessible, energetic wine with a silky structure that beautifully reflects Castillon's charming style.
In the glass, La Folie 2022 shows a deep ruby colour and aromas of crushed strawberries, roses and fresh red fruits. The attack is remarkably fresh and gradually fills the mouth with juicy fruit notes and soft, generous tannins. This wine is made for sharing: open, inviting and deliciously drinkable.
