The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Ried Obegg delicately reflects the unique terroir of this particular vineyard. The vines here grow on a sandy upper layer resting on an ancient coral reef, a soil structure that creates tension, minerality and a distinct character. This combination gives the wine a distinct identity and shows how strong provenance can carry through in the glass.
After harvesting, the wine ferments in 500-litre oak barrels, providing structure and a subtle wood influence. It then ages for a year on fine yeasts, creating depth and texture. The wine is then rested for a further year in stainless steel tanks to retain its freshness and further refine its complexity. This long and careful ageing results in a Sauvignon Blanc with balance, precision and layering.
On the nose, the wine opens with fresh aromas of ripe pineapple and an elegant touch of vanilla. The palate is rich and refined, with a nice tension between fruit, freshness and structure. At the table, this Sauvignon Blanc pairs excellently with grilled fish, seafood, creamy pasta dishes or poultry with a mild sauce.
