The Johanninger 2024 Kreuznach Chardonnay is an elegant and mineral-driven white wine from Weingut Johanninger in Bad Kreuznach, situated in the German wine region of the Nahe. The grapes are grown exclusively in the oldest and finest vineyards of the terroir, on clay-marl soil with a high limestone content, which gives the wine its characteristic minerality and structure. As a certified organic wine, it reflects the belief that respect for nature and quality go hand in hand.
The ripe grapes are carefully selected in several rounds and gently pressed as whole bunches, ensuring maximum aromatic yield. Fermentation takes place using wild yeasts from the grapes themselves, over several weeks in 500-litre tonneaux. The wine then matures for up to 12 months on the lees in the barrel, giving it extra depth and texture. The result is a Chardonnay that stands out for its elegance and minerality, complemented by subtle smoky nuances from the ageing in French tonneaux. The bouquet reveals ripe yellow stone fruit, whilst the mineral notes from the soil make the wine a truly special tasting experience.
An excellent accompaniment to white meat dishes such as Coq au Vin, but also surprisingly good with a pumpkin tart with sheep’s cheese or other savoury dishes with creamy sauces.
