Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Rosso

Cannonau di Sardegna DOC is the undisputed king of Sardinian red wines, made from 100% Cannonau, the island’s iconic native grape variety that is genetically related to Grenache. The vineyards are situated on the sunny hills of Sardinia on granite- and limestone-rich soils, where the warm Mediterranean climate and the cooling sea breeze bring the grapes to optimal ripeness. After a hand-harvest and destemming, the wine is vinified in open vats with daily manual pigeage, followed by spontaneous fermentation and maceration at a controlled temperature between 25 and 28°C. The wine then matures in stainless steel tanks and ages in the bottle.

 

In the glass, the Cannonau displays a deep ruby-red color with garnet reflections. The nose is intense and expressive, with notes of ripe cherries, wild red berries, and blackberries, complemented by spicy nuances of thyme, spices, and a subtle mineral touch. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, warm, and juicy, with well-integrated tannins and a long, elegant finish that reflects the warmth and power of Sardinia.

 

With its full-bodied, warm character, Cannonau is an excellent pairing for red meat, roasts, and aged cheeses. It also pairs exceptionally well with game stews and hearty pasta dishes with meat sauce.
