The 2024 Riesling Trocken from Weingut Jonas Kiefer is a dry, inviting white wine from the sandy loess soils around Worms-Wiesoppenheim in Rheinhessen. Riesling is the flagship wine of this estate, and you can really taste it. Following a meticulous harvest, the wine is aged reductively in stainless steel tanks, which fully preserves its characteristic freshness and aromatic purity. Jonas Kiefer has made a conscious choice to adopt a style in which the vineyard tells the story, and this comes across most clearly in the Riesling.
In the glass, you’ll see a clear, pale yellow colour that immediately promises freshness. The nose is aromatic and lively, with typical notes of citrus, white flowers and a subtle spiciness. On the palate, the wine is dry and lively, with a pleasant freshness and a mineral, light finish that lingers longer than you might expect. Exactly as a good Riesling from Rheinhessen should be.
The Riesling trocken is a real all-rounder at the table. It pairs excellently with hearty summer dishes, grilled fish and light pasta dishes, but also works a treat with Asian food or a spicy cheese platter. And to be honest, it’s simply delicious when enjoyed on its own on a warm evening, with nothing but good company.
