Product description
Balente is a full-bodied and authentic red wine from the heart of Sardinia, made from the three classic native grape varieties of the Mandrolisai region: Bovale Sardo, Monica, and Cannonau. The vineyards are situated on the sunny hills of the Mandrolisai region at an elevation of 500 to 700 meters, on granite and shale soils that give the wine its characteristic minerality and savory depth. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed, and vinified in open vats with daily manual pigeage. After spontaneous fermentation and temperature-controlled maceration, the wine matures in stainless steel tanks, followed by a period of aging in the bottle.
In the glass, the Balente displays an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. The nose is intense and fruity, with notes of ripe red fruit such as cherries and blackberries, complemented by subtle spicy hints and nuances of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wine is dry, savory, and well-structured, with firm yet ripe tannins and a long, persistent finish that fully reflects the character of the Sardinian mountain terroir.
With its full-bodied, well-structured character, the Balente is an excellent pairing for cheeses and red meats in general, as well as for roasted meats, game, and aged Sarde pecorino. It also pairs exceptionally well with traditional dishes from Sardinian mountain cuisine.
