Château La Croix Lartigue Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2017

Château La Croix Lartigue 2017 comes from an exceptional terroir of clay-limestone with layers of gravel on the southern slopes of Castillon. The 8 hectares of vineyards consist of over 40-year-old vines and are managed entirely sustainably, without herbicides and with cereal and legume planting to keep the soil airy and fertile. The growing season began with heat and drought, followed by frost in late April that made the year challenging. Nevertheless, the vine resumed its cycle under better conditions, eventually leading to perfectly ripe grapes and a refined aromatic profile. Harvesting took place by hand from 29 September to 3 October 2017.

In the cellar, the wine matured for 12 months in barrique, 40 per cent of which were new barrels and 60 per cent one-year-old, followed by a further 12 months rest in cuves. The blend consists of 50 per cent merlot and 50 per cent cabernet franc, a combination that provides tension, structure and elegant aromatic complexity. Only 8,403 bottles and 121 magnums were produced of this vintage, highlighting the wine's exclusivity and craftsmanship.

In the glass, Château La Croix Lartigue 2017 shows a rich expression of red fruits, floral notes, chocolate and spicy accents. The ripe tannins give the wine a supple texture that remains generous and harmonious at the same time. The wine received high praise, including 92 points from James Suckling, 93 points from Antonio Galloni, a gold medal at Mundus Vini and a Coup de Coeur in the Guide Hachette 2021. A wine that combines elegance and power and will remain at its best until at least 2027.
