Château La Croix Lartigue 2020 comes from a terroir of clay-limestone and clay-gravel on the warm southern slopes of Castillon, where more than 40-year-old vines grow under sustainable conditions. The 8-hectare vineyard is managed without herbicides and aerated and fed with natural green manure. The year 2020 was marked by exceptional conditions: a record wet winter with mild temperatures accelerated the growing season, followed by frost, rain and finally a hot, dry summer with cool nights. This combination ensured optimal phenolic ripening and impressive aromatic intensity. Harvesting took place entirely by hand from 18 September 2020.
In the cellar, whole bunches and pigeage were used, with malolactic fermentation in both barriques and cuves. The wine matured for 12 months on the groin in barrels, followed by 12 months in tanks. This vintage consists of 60 per cent cabernet franc and 40 per cent merlot, giving the wine an expression of ripe dark fruit, floral nuances and an elegant minerality typical of the limestone plateau. In total, only 6,915 bottles and 60 magnums were produced, contributing to the exclusive character of this cuvée.
The 2020 opens with a deep ruby colour and aromas of gooseberry, blackcurrant and violets. On aeration, notes of cedar and peony emerge. The palate offers an exceptional balance between power and refinement. The tannins are fine and saline, characteristic of chalky soils, while fresh acidity supports the long, elegant finish. The wine has received international acclaim, including 93 points from James Suckling, 92 points from Antonio Galloni and multiple gold medals at Bordeaux, Decanter, Bruxelles and Mundus Vini. Château La Croix Lartigue 2020 shows the perfect harmony between freshness and ripeness and can be drunk until at least 2030.
