Product description
Nero d’Avola is the flagship of Sicilian red winemaking: a grape that carries the warmth, the power, and the character of the island within it. Arini Vini has been growing the grapes since 2005 in vineyards around Marsala, in the province of Trapani, at altitudes between 20 and 80 metres above sea level. The clayey soils with their medium texture give the vines the nutrient-rich foundation they need to root deeply and produce concentrated fruit. The vines are trained using Guyot, and yields are deliberately kept low at around 70 quintals per hectare.
Harvest takes place in early September. After destemming and pressing, the must remains on the skins for 8 to 10 days, allowing the deep colour and rich aromatic extraction that define this wine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks of 600 hectolitres. The wine then ages for 5 to 6 months in used oak barrels before being bottled in February or March. Ageing potential is 5 to 6 years.
In the glass it shows a deep ruby red. The bouquet is intense: berries, plum, and cherry, powerful and unmistakably Nero d’Avola. On the palate it is firmly structured, with a light acidity, fruity approachability, and sweet, elegant tannins that keep the long finish in balance. Excellent alongside red meat, roasts, and game, but equally at home on a generous cheese and charcuterie board. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees.
