Product description
Vigneto Fossatone is an elegant and characterful wine that authentically reflects the essence of the Montepulciano terroir. The grapes, from old vines, grow on a slope with unique exposure to sun and wind. This microclimate, combined with the specific soil structure, creates a wine with remarkable suppleness and finesse. The blend consists of Prugnolo Gentile (90%), Canaiolo Nero (5%) and Mammolo (5%) - a classic composition that stays true to the local wine tradition.
After the manual harvest, the wine matures for 42 months in French oak tonneaux of 500 litres from Allier and Vosges. This long-term wood aging is done so delicately that the wood aroma does not overpower the wine. The wine then rests for more than two years in bottle to reach full maturity. In the glass, Vigneto Fossatone shows with an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues. The bouquet is rich and layered, with notes of ripe berries, spices, tobacco and black pepper. The typical hint of Coscia di Monaca, Montepulciano's local plum variety, provides a unique landmark in aroma and flavour.
The palate is full and harmonious, with silky tannins and perfectly balanced acidity that provides length and structure. This wine comes into its own alongside grilled or roasted red meat, game dishes or mature cheeses, but is also great to enjoy on its own. Serve Vigneto Fossatone at 18-20 °C, preferably opened or decanted a few hours in advance to allow the wine to unfold fully. A wine that captures tradition, patience and elegance in every sip.
