Rio Maggio's Vallone Rosso Piceno DOC is a wine that harks back to the estate's origins. Its name refers to the historic Vallone district, where the winery has its roots and where the estate's oldest vineyard still stands proudly - more than 40 years old. This wine tells the story of tradition, craftsmanship and connection to the earth of Le Marche, where houses made of clay and stone still bear witness to the past. Vallone is the wine that allows one to literally taste the origins of Rio Maggio.
The blend consists of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese, from carefully selected bunches harvested by hand in early October. The wine undergoes a classic vinification according to the Bordeaux method, with 12 to 15 days fermentation and post-fermentative maceration on the skins, with the temperature carefully controlled between 18 and 26°C. It then ages for eight to 10 months in first- or second-fill French barriques and a further four to six months in bottle. In the glass, Vallone shines in a ruby red colour, with aromas of red fruit, spice and subtle notes of truffle. The palate is full, harmonious and well-structured, with a round finish that lingers elegantly and invitingly.
The Vallone Rosso Piceno DOC is a versatile wine that pairs well with red and white meats, aged cheeses, fine meats and dishes with truffle. Serve it at 16-18°C to fully appreciate its balance and depth. With its refined structure and storage potential of 5 to 10 years, Vallone embodies the soul of the Piceno hills - a wine that effortlessly links past and present.
