    What is Vermentino?

    The Vermentino grape originates around the Mediterranean region. In the coastal areas of Spain, France, and Italy, this grape benefits from the strong sun and salty Mediterranean winds. Today, Vermentino is primarily found in Sardinia. Vermentino wine is known for its fresh and lively character. Its flavor profile often includes lemon and grapefruit, but due to the many hours of sunshine, floral notes can also be detected. In Vermentino wines produced in coastal regions, there's often a salty mineral undertone, which is what sets these wines apart from others.

    By the way, did you know that the Vermentino grape has multiple names? In southern France, it's called "Rolle," in Piedmont it's "Favorita," and in Corsica, it's known as "Vermentinu."

    The pride of Sardinia

    The Vermentino grape is the crown jewel of Sardinia. Here, they produce the Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, not only the only DOCG wine of Sardinia but also the wine that best reflects the terroir. Although the Vermentino grape does not originally come from Sardinia, it has certainly found its place here. With the granite soils and Mediterranean climate, the grape thrives in Sardinia. The wine is known as a symbol of Sardinian identity and is associated with celebrating the Mediterranean lifestyle.

    What can you eat with Vermentino?

    Vermentino is generally known for its fresh acidity, subtle saltiness, and citrus aromas. It is also associated with celebrating the Mediterranean lifestyle. Because of this, Vermentino wine is an excellent companion for Mediterranean cuisine. Pair the wine with seafood dishes, bringing out the saltiness with oysters or Venus clams. Or emphasize the citrus notes by serving Vermentino with grilled white fish, prepared with olive oil and lemon. Vermentino also pairs well with fresh Mediterranean salads.

    You can even think outside of Mediterranean cuisine. Try the wine with grilled chicken or a dish with chimichurri. In Italy, the wine is sometimes enjoyed with vitello tonnato, a dish of thinly sliced veal in a creamy tuna sauce.     What about the shipping costs?

    Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery.
    All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.

    To guarantee safe delivery, it is therefore also a requirement that orders are always made in multiples of 6 bottles.

    The following shipping costs apply:

    • 6 bottles at the same winery: €6,-
    • 12+ bottles at the same winery: No shipping costs

    You can order from several wineries at the same time. The above shipping costs apply to each individual winery.
