The Riesling Area 897 2023 comes from the Schweigener Sonnenberg and Rädling vineyard just across the French border, where limestone and calcareous marl dominate the soil. This mineral-rich terroir creates tension, precision and a distinct Riesling character. The grapes were selected entirely by hand and given a maceration of no less than 18 hours before being gently pressed in the traditional Korbpresse. This careful and slow processing provides the basis for a wine that combines purity, structure and terroir expression in an exceptional way.
After pressing, the must was transferred via drop pressure to large oak barrels, where the wine fermented spontaneously without any additives. It was bottled unaged, so that its natural texture, aromatic complexity and authentic freshness were fully preserved. The Riesling Area 897 is a vegan Deutscher Prädikatswein trocken with 12.5% alcohol, 3.6 g/l residual sweetness and 6.8 g/l acidity, giving it a lively, tight and refined profile.
In the glass, the Riesling Area 897 presents itself fresh, energetic and mineral-driven, with aromas of citrus, lime blossom, green apple and a distinct chalky tension. On the palate, it is precise, tight and crystal clear, with lively acids giving the wine length and finesse. The finish is clean, briny and tightly dry, ideal for lovers of elegant, straightforward Riesling. This wine pairs beautifully with sushi, ceviche, grilled prawns, light Asian dishes, goat cheese or fresh salads with citrus. Serve chilled between 7 and 12 °C to fully unleash its mineral intensity.
