This mixed case provides a technical overview of key expressions of Timorasso and Barbera from the Colli Tortonesi DOC. The selection consists of 2 bottles of Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi DOC and 1 bottle of each of the other wines, allowing direct comparison of grape variety, vineyard origin, vine age, and winemaking approach.
Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi DOC is produced from 100% Timorasso grown on southwest-facing slopes at approximately 300 meters above sea level. The soils are composed of clay with limestone, contributing to high acidity, firm structure, and ageing potential. The wine is dry, concentrated, and mineral-driven, with clear terroir expression and suitability for bottle ageing.
‘Tantèi’ Timorasso Colli Tortonesi DOC is also made from 100% Timorasso, sourced from vines over 80 years old. Low yields result in higher extract, greater aromatic complexity, and increased length on the palate.
Mon Cavarè’ Timorasso Metodo Classico is a sparkling wine made from Timorasso, sourced from 30-year-old vines planted on clay soils over grey limestone, on southwest-facing sites at 300 meters altitude. The grapes are hand-harvested in early September, with an emphasis on acidity, precision, and aromatic concentration.
Praie’ Barbera Colli Tortonesi DOC is made from 100% Barbera from approximately 40-year-old vines around the village of Casasco, planted on marble- and clay-rich soils at 250–300 meters above sea level with eastern to southwestern exposure. This results in a wine with fresh acidity, moderate structure, and a clearly defined regional profile.
‘Sarsè’ Barbera Colli Tortonesi DOC comes from vines averaging 50 years of age, grown on marl and clay soils in the same area and altitude range, delivering greater concentration, aromatic intensity, and structure.
This case is designed for analytical comparison: Timorasso in both still and sparkling styles, from different vineyards and vine ages, complemented by Barbera as a reference for the local red wine profile of the Colli Tortonesi.
