Marzieno is the free-spirited, creative side of Fattoria Zerbina: a carefully composed blend that is adjusted by vintage to capture the best of the year. In 2018, the assemblage consists of 40% Sangiovese, 52% Merlot and 8% Syrah, sourced from calcareous clay soils around Modigliana and Brisighella. The wine is aged for two years partly in barriques and partly in tonneaux, which gives depth and complexity without losing freshness. The result is a rich, layered red wine with international allure and Romagna soul.
In the glass, Marzieno 2018 shows ripe dark fruit, spicy accents and subtle wood tones. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with ripe tannins and balanced acidity that carries the concentration. The style is powerful but elegant: dark berry fruit, spice and a long, harmonious finish. This is a wine that impresses with its balance of structure and accessibility.
At the table, Marzieno is a grateful partner for grilled meats, rich pasta dishes with meat sauce, stews and aged cheeses. A wine for long evenings and good company.
