Product description
Tenimenti Collespino’s Primum 2013 is a characterful red wine from Narni, in southern Umbria. The wine is a blend of 51% Sagrantino, 33% Sangiovese and 16% Alicante. The grapes come from a small 1.2-hectare vineyard, situated on a hill at an altitude of 220 metres. The south-southeast-facing aspect ensures plenty of sunshine, good ventilation and marked temperature differences between day and night – ideal conditions for slow and even ripening.
The vineyard was planted in 2006 and has approximately 5,500 vines per hectare. The clay-rich soil of fossil origin and the yield of around 60 quintals of grapes per hectare contribute to the wine’s concentration and structure. The grapes are harvested by hand during the last ten days of September. Following vinification, the wine is aged for no less than 14 months in wood, divided between barriques, tonneaux and 10-hectolitre casks. This lends the wine extra depth and complexity, whilst preserving the character of the fruit.
In the glass, the Primum 2013 is a rich and structured red wine with aromas of ripe cherries and plums, dark berries and dried herbs. The oak ageing adds subtle notes of vanilla, spices and cedar, whilst the combination of fruit, fresh acidity and firm yet refined tannins creates a lovely balance. The wine has sufficient body to stand up to rich dishes, yet retains an elegant character thanks to its freshness. Serve it at 16–18°C, for example with umbricelli and goose ragout, pork with plum sauce, stews or grilled meat.
