Perséides 2022 is an expressive and layered red wine from AOP Faugères, from vineyards on blue schist soils. This mineral-rich, stony soil creates tension, concentration and a pronounced spiciness in the wine. The vines have an average age of 30 years, which contributes to depth and structure.
The blend consists of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. The destemmed and partially crushed grapes macerate in the fermenting juice, extracting Grenache aromas via delicate délestage. Syrah and Mourvèdre release their character through over-pumping and manual extraction. Grenache is aged for 18 months in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fruitiness, while Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged in 500-litre oak barrels for the same period. Assembly takes place just before bottling.
In the glass, Perséides shows a bright, garnet-red colour with purple hues. The nose is expressive with notes of liquorice, mint and cocoa. On the palate, silky tannins provide balance, followed by a long, warm and generous finish.
The wine comes directly from the winemakers, they send the bottles themselves.
