    Origin and Production

    The Sauvignon Blanc grape originally comes from the Loire Valley in France. Today, Sauvignon Blanc can be found all over the world, from California (USA) to Marlborough (NZ), as it adapts easily to different climates. At ONWINE, our selection of Sauvignon Blanc wine features unique varieties from Italy, Germany, and of course, France. Did you know that the name Sauvignon Blanc comes from the French words sauvage (wild) and blanc (white)? This refers to the grape’s original wild growth in nature!

    Terroir and Aromas

    The fact that the Sauvignon Blanc grape can grow all over the world doesn't mean it tastes the same everywhere. A Sauvignon Blanc wine is highly dependent on its terroir. Terroir is a collective term for everything that influences the growth of the grapes, including climate, soil, sunlight, and of course, the winemaker. Cooler climates often lead to a fresher wine with a higher acidity, while warmer climates tend to produce aromas of tropical fruits. So, what about Europe? At ONWINE, we sell Sauvignon Blanc wines from Germany, France, and Italy, and you can certainly experience some differences between them. For example, young Sauvignon Blanc wines from Germany often have sharper acidity due to the cooler climate, but you may also find some tropical fruit notes. French Sauvignon Blanc is often more elegant and has hints of grass, citrus, or green pepper. Italian Sauvignon Blanc tends to have softer acidity and floral aromas.

    What to eat with Sauvignon Blanc?

    The wine and food pairing with Sauvignon Blanc partly depends on the type of Sauvignon Blanc you have. If you have a fresh wine with a relatively high acidity, think about fresh salads or fish dishes. If the Sauvignon Blanc has softer acidity but still with green aromas, try pairing it with spiced pasta with chicken, for example. Sauvignon Blanc also pairs well with less local dishes. Combine it with sushi or try a light Thai curry with a Sauvignon Blanc that has a sharper acidity. It’s also an excellent choice for a drink pairing.     What about the shipping costs?

    Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery.
    All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.

    To guarantee safe delivery, it is therefore also a requirement that orders are always made in multiples of 6 bottles.

    The following shipping costs apply:

    • 6 bottles at the same winery: €6,-
    • 12+ bottles at the same winery: No shipping costs

    You can order from several wineries at the same time. The above shipping costs apply to each individual winery.
