Birbantéo Surlie is an expressive and characterful white wine from the hills of Bevagna, in the heart of Umbria. The vineyards are at about 250 to 350 metres altitude and benefit from a south-east exposure that ensures optimal freshness and ripeness. The only grape used is Trebbiano, from 15-year-old vines growing on soils of clay, limestone and marine formations. This combination of terroir and location gives the wine its characteristic tension, purity and mineral finesse.
Vinification takes place in stainless steel, after which the wine matures for 15 months on fine lie. This sur lie process creates a creamier mouthfeel, extra aromatic depth and a nice balance between freshness and structure. Birbantéo then rests for another 12 months in large French oak barrels before being bottled. This prolonged ageing adds to the wine's complexity and layering, without losing the lively Trebbiano fruit expression. Only 5,000 bottles of this vintage were produced, highlighting the artisanal nature of the wine.
Birbantéo Surlie has a golden yellow colour with slight green reflections. On the nose, delicate notes of white flowers, balsamic hints and white peach emerge. On the palate, the wine is full, fresh and round, with a soft structure elegantly supported by lively acidity and subtle spices. The finish is long, clean and harmonious. This is a wine that goes perfectly with both light fish dishes and refined vegetarian dishes, or as an elegant accompaniment to antipasti and soft cheeses.
