Saumur Rouge from Domaine des Ruaults is a characterful red wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from 30-year-old vines rooted in old sandy and gravelly alluvial soils. Thanks to gentle vinification in tanks and a short maceration time of ten days, this wine retains its freshness and lively fruit expression. After siphoning twice in winter, it is bottled in spring, bringing out the pure style of Cabernet Franc to its full potential.
The wine shows in the glass with a deep ruby colour and purple reflections. In the nose, aromas of fresh cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries dominate, complemented by floral notes of violets and a subtle spiciness of green pepper and graphite. This aromatic complexity is reflected on the palette, where fresh red fruits harmonise with round, well-integrated tannins. Lively acidity provides a nice balance and gives the wine an elegant, light-footed structure.
The finish is long, refined and offers delicate mineral and spicy accents. Saumur Rouge is already extremely pleasant to drink now, but also possesses the potential to develop further over the next three to five years. Serve lightly chilled (14-15°C) to fully enjoy its freshness and delicate fruit aromas. This wine pairs perfectly with light meat dishes, roasted vegetables or soft cheeses.
