Garnacha Blanca is a white grape from Spain and the white variant of Garnacha , the grape best known for red wine. At ONWINE the wines come from three regions: Aragón, Valencia and Rioja. The grape is also used in Priorat , together with Macabeo , for white wine.
What does Garnacha Blanca taste like? Garnacha Blanca tastes of white fruit such as apple and pear, often with citrus and a light herbal or floral note. The wine is round and full, with medium acidity. Ageing in oak makes it creamier and gives it more structure.
Is Garnacha Blanca dry or sweet? Garnacha Blanca is usually made dry. Thanks to the ripe fruit it can feel softer than a sharp, fresh white wine, but it remains a dry style.
What types of Garnacha Blanca are there? Garnacha Blanca differs mainly by region and ageing. These are the four wines in our range, from fresh to full.
Fresh and unoaked The 'Entre Dos Aguas' Blanco from Bodega Taberner Amado is 100% Garnacha Blanca from 15 to 25-year-old vineyards in Bajo Aragón, with no oak ageing. It is dry, fresh and supple, with white fruit and subtle flowers. A light, approachable wine.
Fresh with roundness The 'Maxim' Blanco from Bodegas La Canetana comes from the young Ermita vineyard in Valencia, planted in 2021. The wine ages for five months on the fine lees. You taste apple, pear and tropical fruit such as pineapple and mango, with fresh acidity and a light creaminess.
With oak: fuller and deeper The 'Entre Dos Aguas' Blanco Barrique ages for six months in French oak. That makes it fuller and more complex, while still fresh. You taste fruit with subtle oak notes and a long, harmonious finish.
Rare and complex The 'Adventicia' Blanco is a white Rioja made from 98% Garnacha Blanca and 2% Calagraño. The old vines grow in Alesón at about 700 metres. The wine ages partly in French oak barrels and partly in glass demijohns (damajuanas). It is round and creamy, with passion fruit, melon and a long, layered finish. It comes from Bodegas Heras Cordón .

Where does Garnacha Blanca grow? Garnacha Blanca grows mainly in the north and east of Spain. In our range it comes from three regions.
Aragón .Bodega Taberner Amado is in Nonaspe, between the rivers Matarraña and Algars, on clay and stony soils.
Valencia. Bodegas La Canetana is in Canet Lo Roig on the Costa de Azahar, between mountains and sea.
Rioja. Bodegas Heras Cordón makes the Adventicia from old vines on iron-rich clay soils.
What food goes with Garnacha Blanca? A fresh, unoaked Garnacha Blanca goes well with tapas, fish, shellfish, rice dishes and salads. An oak-aged Garnacha Blanca is fuller and suits poultry, creamy dishes and soft cheese.
