The ormeasco di Pornassio D.O.C. Superiore is a characterful red wine made from 100% ormeasco grapes sourced from more than 70-year-old vines planted on hillsides above 600 metres altitude. The high altitude and the age of the vines ensure low yields with concentrated grapes of exceptional quality. This wine is the result of careful selection of the very best bunches from the domain's oldest vineyard plot.
In the glass, the wine presents itself with a deep garnet red colour. The nose is warm and inviting, with aromas of cherry jam, soft vanilla notes and a fine spiciness. The palate is dry, full and elegant, with a long finish in which the use of wood is subtly interwoven without being overpowering. After vinification in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures further in large wooden barrels, followed by prolonged bottle aging, which adds to its complexity and ripe structure.
This wine comes into its own with dishes with powerful flavours. Think slow-cooked stews, game dishes or a classic brasato. Served at a temperature of 20 degrees, the ormeasco di Pornassio Superiore reveals its full character and the deep expression of the terroir from which it comes.
