Ormeasco di Pornassio DOC is a characterful red wine produced entirely from the authentic ormeasco grape. The vineyards are located on slopes above 500 metres altitude in the Alta Valle Arroscia, an area with a rich history and ideal climatic conditions for this ancient variety. According to tradition, ormeasco was introduced here by the Saracens during their invasions, giving it a unique place in the region's history.
The wine shows a ruby red colour and is distinguished by a soft, warm and dry structure. In the aroma and flavour, the typical notes of cherries and wild berries are evident. Vinification takes place in steel tanks, with a short maceration of four to five days on the skins at around 25 degrees ensuring an expressive, fruity style without excessive extraction. As a result, the wine retains its freshness and elegance.
Ormeasco di Pornassio is excellent with meat dishes, game and aged cheeses. When drunk young, it pairs surprisingly well with hearty fish dishes. Served at 18 to 20 degrees, this wine reveals the full character of a grape that is firmly rooted in the past, but continues to surprise today with its versatility and depth.
