Riesling Schenkenberg Vendanges Tardives 2007 is a rare and exceptional late-harvest wine that perfectly brings together the greatness of ageing and terroir. Coming from an exceptional year and now almost two decades old, this wine shows how time does not soften Riesling, but deepens it. In the glass, it shines with an intense yellow-gold colour, crystal clear and vibrant, with green reflections that betray how much energy this wine still possesses.
The nose is open, rich and impressively complex. Ripe fruit and citrus are carried by grapefruit, rhubarb jam and floral notes, with underneath a subtle mineral hint reminiscent of white truffle. Despite its ripeness, the wine retains the nervousness and tension so characteristic of Riesling. On the palate, it is at once silky and lively, with round, supple texture and a perfect harmony between freshness, ripeness and elegance. This is a wine in which power and finesse coincide completely.
Served around 10 degrees, this Vendanges Tardives is already drinking beautifully, but it has a storage potential of more than 25 years. It feels at home with rich fish dishes with creamy sauces, poultry such as poularde, veal, mushrooms and refined truffle dishes. This is no ordinary wine, but a gastronomic experience and a rare opportunity to discover a great, aged Alsace Riesling.
