The Merlot Ried Kirchbergen 2023 from Weingut Pleil is a powerful and layered red wine from the Weinviertel region. This Merlot combines ripe dark fruit with spicy depth and refined wood influences, creating a complex and characterful wine. Originating from the Ried Kirchbergen vineyard and shaped by sand, gravel, marl and loess loam soils, this wine shows an impressive balance between power, elegance and structure.
On the nose, the wine opens with intense aromas of blackcurrants, ripe cherries and subtle paprika spices. On the palate, it presents itself full and powerful, with notes of dark berries, morels and a refined spiciness of liquorice and toasted nuts. The tannins are firm but elegantly integrated and are supported by nuances of dark chocolate, black slate and a subtle touch of marzipan in the long finish. The wine has plenty of depth and a nice aging potential.
