Product description
Merlot was introduced to Friuli at the end of the 19th century and spread rapidly, which is hardly surprising: the ponca soils and the microclimate of the Colli Orientali proved ideal for this grape variety. Today, Merlot is one of the region’s iconic red wines, and Ronchi di Manzano’s version is a fine example of what this region can achieve with this variety.
After the harvest, destemming, crushing and temperature-controlled fermentation take place, followed by vinification and maceration on the skins for approximately two weeks. After an initial ageing phase in stainless steel, the wine is aged for twelve months in wooden barrels of various sizes, followed by a further two months of bottle ageing. In the glass, it is a clear, deep and vibrant ruby red. The aroma is intense, complex and refined, with fruity notes, cherry, humus and leaves. On the palate, it is dry, with noticeable tannins, savoury and well-balanced.
Excellent with cold cuts, white meat and roast beef. Serve at 16–18°C.
