Giorgio Tenaglia was a renowned mercenary captain and governor of nearby Moncalvo, a passionate lover of Barbera who founded this estate as a wine-growing oasis in the 17th century. It is therefore fitting that the estate’s flagship wine bears his name. The Giorgio Tenaglia strikes the perfect balance between the young, fresh Barbera and the powerful, rich Superiore versions. The grapes come from the estate’s oldest vineyards.
Following traditional fermentation at 28°C in stainless steel, the Giorgio Tenaglia is aged for 12 months in 225-litre wooden barrels, followed by at least 12 months in the bottle. This ageing process gives it its structure and complexity. In the glass, it is an intense red with hints of spices, vanilla and ripe fruit. On the palate, it is soft, refined, persistent and well-structured.
Traditional regional dishes, agnolotti, red meat and game. Also perfect with mature or strong cheeses and as a wine for contemplation. Serve at 16–18°C.
