12 and 13 December: the ONWINE Winemakers’ Festival. Winemakers from all ONWINE countries are coming to the Netherlands to let you taste their best wines.
The 2023 Chardonnay trocken Kalkofen from Lichti & Astroh is a refined and authentic Chardonnay from the Pfalz, shaped by limestone soils that impart freshness, minerality and precision. The wine ferments spontaneously and matures for 18 months in used oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered, resulting in a pure, elegant expression that honours the character of its terroir.
On the nose, the wine reveals subtle nutty and vegetal notes, complemented by hints of smoke and bright citrus. The palate is fine and juicy, offering flavours of ripe orchard fruit, a touch of vanilla and delicate oak nuances that remain beautifully balanced. Fresh acidity adds vibrancy, while gentle herbal and mineral tones lead into a long, clean and expressive finish.
The 2023 Kalkofen pairs wonderfully with creamy fish dishes, roasted poultry, soft cheeses or mushroom risotto. Previous vintages received strong ratings from wein.plus and Eichelmann, confirming the consistently high quality of this cuvée. A perfect choice for those who appreciate Chardonnay with finesse, minerality and subtle oak influence.
