12 and 13 December: the ONWINE Winemakers’ Festival. Winemakers from all ONWINE countries are coming to the Netherlands to let you taste their best wines.
The 2023 Spätburgunder trocken Kirschgarten from Lichti & Astroh is an elegant, characterful Pinot Noir from the Pfalz, rooted in limestone soils that impart finesse, tension, and a distinct mineral backbone. Certified organic for the first time (DE-Öko-22), this wine underwent spontaneous fermentation and developed naturally before ageing for 24 months in used small oak barrels. Bottled unfiltered, it retains its purity and authentic structure.
On the nose and palate, the wine reveals a refined interplay of black and red berry fruit, complemented by gentle smoky notes, herbal tones, and subtle earthy components. Aromas of forest floor, wild berries, and a hint of tobacco combine with lively acidity and soft yet present tannins. With aeration, the wine opens beautifully, gaining depth and becoming even more supple and expressive.
The 2023 Kirschgarten Spätburgunder pairs beautifully with poultry, mushroom dishes, veal, and soft-ripened cheeses. Previous vintages have received excellent ratings from respected guides such as Eichelmann and Vinum, highlighting the consistently high quality of this cuvée. A refined, mineral-driven Pinot Noir for those who value elegance, precision, and length.
