Laudanum Cuvée rot trocken is a powerful and characterful premium red from Lichti & Astroh, inspired by the classic Bordeaux model. This cuvée consists of 73% Merlot from vintage 2020 and 27% St Laurent from 2022, from the chalky soil structures of the Laumersheimer Kirschgarten. The grapes were spontaneously fermented and the wine matured for 18 to 42 months in used small oak barrels, after which it was bottled unfiltered.
On the nose, this wine opens with notes of ripe blackcurrants, a hint of tomato puree and subtle impressions of sour cherry and floral accents. On the palate, it shows powerful and complex, with dark fruits, slightly smoky and toasted nuances, and a spicy structure supported by robust, slightly drying tannins. A hint of fleshiness and moderate bitterness provide depth, while mineral undertones and limestone terroir slowly unfold on the finish.
Crafted with care, this cuvée combines precision with expression. The result is a solid but accessible food wine, which was awarded 85 out of 100 points by wein.plus in 2024. It goes well with dishes such as grilled red meat, game, stews or mature cheeses, and comes out best as a table wine with savoury meals with character.
