The Riesling 'Coeur' is a characterful single-vineyard wine from limestone soils at 230 metres altitude, from Lichti & Astroh's new home in Herxheim am Berg. The name, derived from the French word for "heart", refers to the deep connection with this place AND this cuvée. Spontaneously fermented and aged for 14 months in used 300-litre barriques, the wine was bottled unfiltered in a limited edition of only 359 bottles.
On the nose, 'Coeur' opens with a spicy and nutty aroma, complemented by a hint of brown butter, subtle notes of yellow fruit and a hint of smoke and earth. On the palate, it presents itself juicy and dry with lively acids, a fine grip and a creamy texture. The finish is long and complex, with delicate smokiness and a velvety finish that unfolds beautifully with air.
