Lyrides Rouge is a powerful and refined red wine from AOP Faugères, from vineyards on blue schist soils. These poor, mineral-rich soils ensure low yields and give the wine its distinctive concentration, spiciness and structure. The vines have an average age of 35 years, which contributes to depth and complexity.
The blend consists of 80% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre, harvested at optimum ripeness. Ignition is followed by a traditional vinification with a long maceration of 3-5 weeks after fermentation, which ensures extraction of colour, tannin and aromatic intensity. The wine is then aged for 18 months in new Burgundy oak barrels, which adds extra structure and refined wood tones.
In the glass, Lyrides Rouge shows a deep, dark colour. In the nose, elegant sweet spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon dominate, complemented by spicy notes of cube pepper. On the palate, the wine is supple but richly structured, with ripe tannins and a long finish. Decant preferably one hour before serving to bring out its full expression.
