Mascalico is a powerful and elegant Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from Tenuta Pescarina, made with respect for tradition and terroir. The grapes grow on the hills around Spoltore, where chalky clay soils with gravel provide depth and complexity. After harvesting, the grapes are fermented for 15 to 20 days on the skins in stainless steel tanks, which gives the wine intensity and structure. Mascalico then ages for 12 months in French oak tonneaux and a further four months in bottle, developing its harmonious balance and refinement.
In the glass, the wine shows ruby red with vibrant hues. The nose is intense, with spicy notes and aromas of ripe red fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied, velvety and powerful at the same time, with firm tannins that make for a wine with body and length. Its spicy and expressive character makes it an authentic representative of the Montepulciano tradition.
Mascalico is an ideal companion to rich meat dishes such as lamb stew, grilled red meat and game. Its powerful yet elegant style also comes into its own with matured cheeses and hearty pasta dishes.
