Monica di Sardegna DOC Rosso

Monica di Sardegna DOC is an approachable and juicy red wine made from the indigenous grape variety of the same name, which is believed to have been brought to Sardinia by Spanish occupiers and has since fully adapted to the Sardinian terroir. The vineyards are located on the island’s sunny hillsides, on calcareous and sandy soils, where the Mediterranean climate ensures the grapes ripen fully and develop warmth. After a hand-harvest and destemming, the wine is vinified in open vats with daily manual pigeage, followed by spontaneous fermentation and temperature-controlled maceration. The wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks and subsequently rests in the bottle.

 

In the glass, the Monica displays an intense ruby-red color with purple hues. The nose is inviting and fruity, with notes of raspberry, cherry, and blackberry, complemented by delicate spicy nuances and a hint of floral notes. On the palate, the wine is warm, full-bodied, and pleasantly smooth, with well-balanced tannins and a supple, approachable finish featuring a slight sweetness typical of the Monica grape.

 

Monica is a versatile wine that pairs excellently with cold cuts, flavorful first courses, and grilled meats. It also pairs exceptionally well with pasta, risotto, and medium-aged cheeses.
