    Northern Italy Tasting Pack

From crisp Arneis from Piedmont to elegant Pinot Noir from the Alps. This pack combines our favorite wines from northern Italy. From the Ligurian coast to Lake Garda: six wines, each offering a taste of its own region.

Piano Vini - Langhe Arneis 2025
The Piano family has been making wine for generations in Calosso d’Asti, in the hills of Monferrato. Today grandsons Gianluca and Fabio are at the helm. Their motto is clear: a perfect wine can only come from a perfect grape. Arneis is a native white grape from Piedmont. The grapes grow on southeast-facing marl and clay soils and are pressed gently. The wine then ferments at low temperature and ages on the lees. Straw yellow, with an intense yet refined nose and striking freshness. Dry and harmonious. Lovely as an aperitif, or with fish, white meat or young cheese.

Torre Pernice - Vermentino Riviera Ligure di Ponente
In the middle of the Torre Pernice estate in Albenga stands a 16th-century tower, which gives the estate its name. The Sartori family started here in 1950. They own more than ten hectares of continuous vineyard, a rarity in steep Liguria. The family works only with Ligurian grapes. Sun, sea breeze and the nearby mountains give this Vermentino its character. On the nose you’ll find wildflowers, herbs, broom and a hint of anise. Dry, fresh and juicy, with citrus, ripe yellow fruit, a touch of honey and a mineral finish. Perfect with shellfish, fish or pasta with pesto, just as they eat it in Liguria.

    Bigagnoli - Bardolino Classico
Stefano Bigagnoli taught himself to make wine in the garage of his family home. When his sparkling Chiaretto won a first prize, wine expert Angelo Peretti encouraged him to make it his profession. He has done so full-time since 2017, on three hectares in the heart of Bardolino on Lake Garda. His vineyards are certified organic, and he works with old pergolas averaging around 50 years. This Bardolino of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara is hand-picked and ferments spontaneously with wild yeasts. Bright ruby red, with violets, ripe red fruit and a hint of liquorice. Fresh and juicy, with light tannins. Lovely lightly chilled with fish or white meat. Or, as they say in Bardolino: the fish is born in the lake and dies in the Bardolino.

Sankt Pauls - 'Luzia' Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC
Since 1907, winegrowing families in the South Tyrolean village of San Paolo have worked together in Kellerei Sankt Pauls. Today there are around 190 of them, with vineyards on slopes and steep terraces up to 650 metres. In the four-storey cellar, the wine moves by gravity, without pumps. Luzia is named after a Roman villa whose ruins still rise above the vineyards. The Pinot Noir grows on limestone-rich soils between 350 and 500 metres. The wine undergoes a cold maceration and ages in large wooden casks and tonneaux. On the nose you’ll find forest berries, raspberry, cherry, flowers and a spicy touch. Elegant, with supple tannins and a long, fruity finish. Delicious with pasta, mushrooms or aged cheese.

    Il Chiosso - Ghemme DOCG
In Alto Piemonte, where the Alps give way to rolling vineyards, the family behind “Il Chiosso” works with great respect for tradition. They rely on spontaneous fermentation, minimal intervention, and patient aging. Their Ghemme is made from Nebbiolo—known here as “Spanna”—with a small percentage of Vespolina. The grapes come from the hills around Ghemme, from the Cavenago, Rossini, and Carella vineyards, where the vines grow on sparse, mineral-rich sandy and loamy soils left behind by glaciers. Intense ruby red with garnet-red highlights. The bouquet is restrained and elegant; on the palate, the wine is dry and structured, with earthy and mineral notes and a long finish. A refined Nebbiolo that pairs well with red meat, game, truffles, or aged cheeses.

Tenuta Polvaro - Merlot DOC Venezia
The history of Tenuta Polvaro near Venice goes back to 1681. Since 2010 the estate has belonged to the Candoni De Zan family, and today sisters Barbara and Caterina run it. This organic Merlot comes from a single vineyard in the historic Lison Classico zone. The vines are over 30 years old and grow on clay-limestone soils. The Dolomites shelter the vineyard and the Adriatic Sea brings cooling breezes. After a long skin maceration, the wine ages for 12 months in barriques and then a further 24 months in steel. You’ll taste ripe red fruit, soft herbs and light toasty notes, with velvety tannins and a harmonious finish. Delicious with roast or red meat, pasta or a semi-aged Asiago.
