Productomschrijving
The Barmet is a young red wine that embodies the freshness and authenticity of our characteristic "barmet." These barmets are small, refrigerated cellars carved beneath enormous boulders in the heart of the vineyards. They are used for storing tools and collecting rainwater, which is channeled through slots in the stones and collected in a large inner tank. The wine, like these cellars, is honest, fresh, and has a slight robustness.
The Barmet has a beautiful ruby-red color and a refined, subtly fruity aroma. On the palate, you'll experience a dry taste with a light hint of tannin, creating a balanced structure and a pleasant finish. The wine's alcohol content is 13% vol, contributing to its full flavor without being overpowering. The wine has a minimum total acidity of 4.5 g/l and a minimum dry extract of 18 g/l, resulting in a firm yet soft body.
The grapes used for this wine are of the Nebbiolo variety, known locally as "Picotendro." This grape has small, soft berries that grow on steep, stony slopes facing south to southeast. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters above sea level, spread across the municipalities of Donnas, Perloz, Pont-Saint-Martin, and Bard. This unique location and the rich, well-drained soils give the grapes a distinctive character.
The grapes for Barmet are harvested between mid- and late October, when they are at their peak. After harvest, the wine is aged for four months in stainless steel tanks, which preserves its freshness and purity. The wine then undergoes another four months of bottle aging, which further refines and rounds out the flavor.
This unique wine is an ideal accompaniment to hearty dishes such as cured meats, chestnut soups, bean soups, and hearty stews. The Barmet is perfect for those seeking a wine with character that authentically conveys the tradition and purity of winemaking.
