Akra Gaia is a lively and fruity dry rosé from Akra Vini di Calabria, made from the indigenous grape varieties Aglianico and Magliocco, grown on the deep, matured brown-red soils of the Tenuta Santa Venere at the foot of the Pollinomountains. The grapes are harvested by hand in September into crates, after which they are destemmed and pressed. The must undergoes cold static decantation and then ferments for 20 to 25 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for four months sur lie, followed by at least two months of finishing in steel and in the bottle.
In the glass, the Gaia displays a vibrant pink colour that reflects the soul of the Pollino. The nose is intense and inviting, with aromas of red and purple fruits such as raspberry and violet, complemented by a delicate iodine-like note that emphasises the wine’s Mediterranean character. On the palate, the Gaia is fresh and dry, with a pleasant tannic finish that gives the wine structure and character.
The Akra Gaia is a versatile and immediately appealing table wine that pairs excellently with cold cuts, fish, cheeses and white meat. Its fresh fruitiness and light tannic structure also make it ideal as an aperitif with Mediterranean antipasti.
