Domus Caia Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva is a deep and layered expression of 100% Sangiovese, from the historic Vigna della Collina vineyard in Serra di Castel Bolognese at 200 metres altitude. The vines were planted in 1980 and produce low yields with high concentration. Harvesting takes place in the third week of September, with grapes carefully selected by hand and harvested in small crates to ensure quality and integrity.
After harvesting, the grapes are dried for about 30 days, adding extra depth and complexity. They are then destemmed and fermented in glass-lined concrete vats at controlled temperature. The wine then ages for 12 months in large 500-litre wooden barrels, followed by bottling and further bottle aging. This long and controlled ageing creates structure, balance and a refined integration of wood and fruit.
In the glass, Domus Caia shows a deep ruby red colour. The aromatic profile is intense and layered, with notes of black truffle, morels, cooked plums and a subtle touch of wilted rose. The palate is dry, warm and velvety, with harmonious balance and a long, elegant finish. Served at 18 to 20 degrees, this is a distinctly gourmet wine with clear ageing potential.
