The Chianti Gelso Riserva DOCG from Fattoria Valacchi is a powerful and refined expression of the Sangiovese grape, complemented by a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine comes from carefully selected plots in the hills of Barberino Tavarnelle, where the vines grow at 250 to 300 metres altitude in chalky, medium-heavy soils. After a long fermentation and maceration of 20 to 24 days at controlled temperature, the wine matures on its fine lees, completing malolactic fermentation naturally. It then rests for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, after which further bottle aging of at least six months ensures its elegant balance and depth.
In the glass, the Chianti Gelso Riserva shows a vibrant, ruby red colour with deep hues. The bouquet is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe red fruits, blackcurrants and currants, refined framed by subtle toasted notes of wood. On the palate, the wine presents itself full and balanced, with lively acidity and powerful yet velvety tannins. Its structure and freshness perfectly reflect the character of the Tuscan terroir, while aging in wood provides warmth, length and a pleasant spiciness in the finish.
The Chianti Gelso Riserva DOCG is the ideal choice for lovers of elegant yet expressive red wines. It pairs excellently with game dishes, grilled red meat or stews with spicy accents. It also goes beautifully with Tuscan pasta dishes with ragù or aged cheeses, with its full flavour and long finish.
