Akra Vini di Calabria is an ambitious wine project based at Tenuta Santa Venere, situated in Castrovillari at the foot of the Pollino Mountains in the province of Cosenza, Calabria. The name ‘Akra’ refers to the Ancient Greek word for ‘summit’ or ‘fortress’, a nod to the region’s rich Greek history and, at the same time, an expression of the ambition to showcase the very best of Calabria. The vineyards are situated on sunny terraces with deep, brown-red soils of Pleistocene origin, rich in minerals and microelements, and benefit from the unique microclimate created by the warmth of the Mediterranean Sea and the cooling mountain breezes from the Pollino and Sila ranges.
