Product description
The 2018 Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva from Podere Ciona is a wine with depth, elegance and distinct character. This Riserva is composed of 97% Sangiovese and 3% Merlot, from vines growing at an altitude between 490 and 580 metres, on soils composed of sandstone, clay yeast and marl. The location and composition of the soils produce wines with pronounced minerality, finesse and power.
Fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts for 10 days in a 35-hectolitre stainless steel vat, followed by a long skin soaking of 35 to 40 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 15 hectolitre French oak barrels and 500 litre tonneaux, followed by a 24-month maturation in wood - partly in large barrel, partly in second passage tonneaux - sourced from Allier and Nievre forests. This wood aging is followed by another refinement of at least 12 months in bottle, adding to the wine's harmony and complexity.
In the glass, the Riserva shows deep ruby red. The bouquet is elegant and refined, with aromas of ripe red fruits and spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is velvety, excellently balanced, with a firm structure and a long, concentrated finish. This wine comes into its own at a serving temperature of 18 to 20°C and goes perfectly with rich pasta dishes with red sauces, roasted or grilled meat, game dishes and mature cheeses. A true expression of traditional craftsmanship from the heart of Tuscany.
