Made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, this Pouilly-Fumé from Domaine Renaud derives its character from the exceptional terroirs of Saint-Andelain. The combination of clay-limestone, flint-clay and Portlandian limestone gives the wine its depth, tension and pronounced minerality. These soils, typical of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, create aromas that are both fine and powerful, and give the wine its distinctive smoky touch for which the region is so famous.
After harvest, the wine is raised on fine groins in stainless steel tanks for six months, an ageing that gives it extra texture, roundness and complexity without overpowering the pure fruit. The style remains tight and elegant, with subtle floral freshness and lively acidity supporting the minerality beautifully. The result is a precise, expressive wine that offers great pleasure when young but can deepen further with three to five years of bottle ageing.
On the nose and palate, this Pouilly-Fumé shows aromas of citrus, white peach and fine stone fruit, with a hint of flint and a long, briny finish. The wine is an excellent match with seafood, smoked salmon and goat cheese such as Crottin de Chavignol. Thanks to its fresh structure and mineral tension, it comes into its own both as an aperitif and with refined fish dishes.
