12 and 13 December: the ONWINE Winemakers’ Festival. Winemakers from all ONWINE countries are coming to the Netherlands to let you taste their best wines.
The 2023 Or_ratio trocken from Lichti & Astroh is an intriguing, characterful orange wine crafted from Scheurebe, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, grown on limestone soils in the Pfalz. The grapes undergo ten days of skin contact, followed by spontaneous fermentation and twelve months of ageing in used oak barrels. Bottled unfiltered, the wine retains its natural cloudiness and textural depth, true to the artisanal orange-wine style.
In the glass, Or_ratio shows a lightly cloudy straw to ochre hue. The nose reveals nutty and dried-plant aromas, citrus notes, orchard fruit, a hint of tobacco, currant and subtle dried-floral nuances. On the palate, the wine offers a linear, gently creamy fruit profile with pronounced nutty, delicately smoky and buttery tones. Soft tannins, fine acidity and yeast-driven complexity contribute to a long, structured and expressive finish.
The 2023 Or_ratio pairs beautifully with grilled vegetables, saffron dishes, curries, raw-milk cheeses or Mediterranean cuisine. Awarded 86 points by wein.plus, this cuvée showcases a refined yet unconventional character, ideal for enthusiasts of natural wines with texture, structure and aromatic depth.
