Pinot Gris Schenkenberg Vendanges Tardives 2005 is an exceptional and rare late-harvest wine that impressively demonstrates how great Pinot Gris can age. Despite its age, the wine still shows a striking youthfulness in the glass, with light shades of green contrasting with the clear concentration, depth and creamy texture associated with a wine of this maturity. This is a wine in which time has not slowed, but rather refined.
The nose is expressive and seductive, with ripe but not overripe fruit, supported by smoky nuances and a touch of liquorice. The freshness of the vintage keeps the wine lively and precise. On the palate, the attack is soft, velvety and supple, with an elegant creaminess that never gets heavy. On the contrary, the natural lushness of Pinot Gris is perfectly carried by tension and structure, providing balance and length. This is a wine where richness and energy go hand in hand.
This Vendanges Tardives is beautifully ready to drink now, but also has a storage potential of more than 25 years. Served between 8 and 10 degrees, it comes into its own with game pâtés and terrines, foie gras of duck or goose, or refined sweet and sour dishes. This is not an everyday wine, but a gastronomic experience and a rare chance to discover a great aged Alsace Pinot Gris.
