Philia Rouge 2021 is a deep, gourmet red wine from the sunny plots at the foot of Mont Ventoux. The vineyards are on argilo-limestone-rich and limonous soils, which gives the wine its mineral backbone and ripe concentration. This cuvée comes from the estate's oldest terroirs and shows a more concentrated, riper side of Ventoux.
The blend consists of 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache Noir. Manual harvest is followed by a long cuvaison in concrete cuves to build up colour, structure and depth. Next, the Syrah in particular is aged for 14 months in older oak barrels (more than 5 years old), keeping the wood influence refined and the fruit the starring role.
In the glass, Philia Rouge 2021 shows a dark, intense colour with purple and violet reflections. The nose is soft and gourmand with notes of chocolate with toasted hazelnut, followed by garrigue and inky nuances. On the palate, the wine is fleshy and generous, with spicy accents of cinnamon and liquorice, a long mineral finish and supple, finely woven tannins. A powerful but elegant Ventoux with ageing potential.
